Slowly going into 2009 make me think about, what this new year will bring in my life,or what I want it to bring me. I like to start and end the year reading inspirational books and thinking inspirational thoughts.

I like to start browsing through the Practice of Leadership Blog, that always lets me put things (my life + my career) in perspective and helps me start with the best mindset.

Here are a few great articles (among all the great ones) I need to outline:

  • The 2008 800-CEO-READ Leadership Book Award that outlines Seth Godin book about Tribes, but you can read the full book review here. Here is a quote: “Heretics are the new leaders. The ones who challenge the status quo, who get out in front of their tribes, who create movements. The marketplace new rewards (and embraces) the heretics.”
  • Five Challenges that accelerate leadership development which outlines five challenges, but I will highlight only 2: the need to handle (1) Unfamiliar responsibilities via the development of new skills. For me, in 2008, it was surfing, and 2009 will be taking snowboarding and yoga more seriously. Secondly, (2) the need to Create Change which I am pursuing in my new job at Deloitte.

What do you want this year to bring you?

Who are your communities/tribes?

  • On my side, I can name a few: my technology community of geeks and tech passionate people found in my twitter, my facebook, my Mybloglog, my Flickr, my friendfeed or in some meetups that I try to attend as often as my schedule permits it.
  • My worldwide community of surfers , and the waiting-for-the-wave-and-catching-it-community and philosophy. I started in Montreal, then r eally practiced in Cabarete, at Encuentro Beach in Dominican Republic for a month last year.

Who will you be leading in 2009?
