Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, Ikea shows us all a great Facebook photo tagging photo. Something you definitely could not do with Photobucket, Picasa or Flickr. Whevever we are located, in all major cities, we all receive Ikea’s direct mailing. We are all aware of what the new collection is. We all tell ourselves that we need an “Ikea break”, because we can be extreme Ikea shoppers when life events change (new apartment, first condo, baby coming up, a raise, etc). We often take ikea breaks and don’t go to the store.
What if you got some Ikea goodness for free, if you were the first to tag your Ikea object of desire on Facebook?
Personnalization was key, since the pictures to tag were uploaded to an Ikea’s store manager profile, Gordon Gustavsson: http://www.facebook.com/ikeagordon
That is what Ikea did extremely well, and they even showed us the way to do it in a YouTube video. You don’t pretend viral, you just are viral. And this campaign seems like one that qualified and the people just made so viral. Thanks to Simply Zesty Blog for bringing my attention to that campaign. That reveals a pretty rocky 2010 year. More social media challenges ahead. 2010 should hold many more successful smarter campaigns using social media. Social media marketers will need to get smarter for their campaigns to be noticed.
What will be your equivalent of this “Ikea tagging fest”?
