Continue reading
The future of facebook mail: social messaging
Internet lovers. Facebook-a-holic. Just watch this short video introducing us to some hints around the future of email with Facebook, a social email, they say. All I can say is that I am definitely hoping for an email disruptor… Maybe I am hoping for too much. If Facebook brought us the newsfeed, it might be able to do some good with email… Social email, what does it look like? Mobile sms, emails… the social inbox, what does it smell like? Continue reading
[Foursquare] Social media: forever in the dating phase
What is the traffic in monthly unique visitors of the most talked about location-based mobile and web sites Brightkite, Gowalla, Foursquare, loopt? And newly Check.in, the mobile web app, which Techcrunch positioned as the remedy to checkin fatique? Here is a quick draft from February 2010 from Compete.com (US only) data that gives a quick portray of forces in action here. Foursquare has seen a big jump in February 2010. Smells like the start of critical mass adoption? It is funny how Spring ignites social messaging services, see Twitter: le grand bond du printemps blog post which highlights the February 2007 Twitter jump in Statistics, just the way Foursquare has seemed to be “jumping” in February 2010. Is that a pattern?
Foursquare has now been valued around $50M to $70M by four Venture Capital investors, cited in Techcrunch and Social Media Today. Only speculations? Probably. Continue reading

Ikea brings the "s" in Social Media Smarts
Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, Ikea shows us all a great Facebook photo tagging photo. Something you definitely could not do with Photobucket, Picasa or Flickr. Whevever we are located, in all major cities, we all receive Ikea’s direct mailing. We are all aware of what the new collection is. We all tell ourselves that we need an “Ikea break”, because we can be extreme Ikea shoppers when life events change (new apartment, first condo, baby coming up, a raise, etc). We often take ikea breaks and don’t go to the store.
What if you got some Ikea goodness for free, if you were the first to tag your Ikea object of desire on Facebook?
Personnalization was key, since the pictures to tag were uploaded to an Ikea’s store manager profile, Gordon Gustavsson: http://www.facebook.com/ikeagordon
That is what Ikea did extremely well, and they even showed us the way to do it in a YouTube video. You don’t pretend viral, you just are viral. And this campaign seems like one that qualified and the people just made so viral. Thanks to Simply Zesty Blog for bringing my attention to that campaign. That tells us even more that 2010 holds many more successful smarter campaigns using social media. Social media marketers will need to get smarter for their campaigns to be noticed. Continue reading
2009 Technology Predictions: Why listen to them?
One interesting aspect of these Roadshows is that Brick and Mortar enterprises, as well as more Information Technology enterprises will be meeting to discuss, exchange, ask questions and challenge these technology predictions.
Part of that event’s goal is to get cross-industry conversations. It is also a good occasion to see the IT consulting excellence pool that we have in Canada, Montreal and Toronto.
It is a great exposure for consultants to showcase the value and the ROI of Internet initiatives, particularly in turbulent times. *That is just a personal opinion/insight, from me, Katheline Jean-Pierre, not from any firm, affiliation or association. *
See you there. Continue reading
