#oilspill: Social media for social change
After the stunt has been done, users are invited to take an action: 1) make a donation, 2) sign a petition or 3) volunteer for A cleaner future, which is also the name of the NGO behind this initiative: http://acleanerfuture.org/ This is an example of a really well drafted viral social media initiative around social change. Let’s not forget, a viral campaign can never be guaranteed. But the right components can be aligned to make sure the largest distribution to core audiences. Continue reading
Ikea brings the "s" in Social Media Smarts
Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, Ikea shows us all a great Facebook photo tagging photo. Something you definitely could not do with Photobucket, Picasa or Flickr. Whevever we are located, in all major cities, we all receive Ikea’s direct mailing. We are all aware of what the new collection is. We all tell ourselves that we need an “Ikea break”, because we can be extreme Ikea shoppers when life events change (new apartment, first condo, baby coming up, a raise, etc). We often take ikea breaks and don’t go to the store.
What if you got some Ikea goodness for free, if you were the first to tag your Ikea object of desire on Facebook?
Personnalization was key, since the pictures to tag were uploaded to an Ikea’s store manager profile, Gordon Gustavsson: http://www.facebook.com/ikeagordon
That is what Ikea did extremely well, and they even showed us the way to do it in a YouTube video. You don’t pretend viral, you just are viral. And this campaign seems like one that qualified and the people just made so viral. Thanks to Simply Zesty Blog for bringing my attention to that campaign. That tells us even more that 2010 holds many more successful smarter campaigns using social media. Social media marketers will need to get smarter for their campaigns to be noticed. Continue reading
Who said consulting can’t be tricky?
How do you react to this job interview? Really? This interview is pretty tricky. The candidates look as thrilled as ever and except for the “Monkey Business” guy, all seem to stay a bit “uptight” to make sure to nail that job interview aimed at “MBAs”. Continue reading
[Commercials] Superbowl XLIII Coke:"Open Happiness"
We all have our alter ego, our avatar, our other personas. Even if Coke is just a sweet dark liquor that wants to make us drink more of it, they had it this time, they focused on the feel-good feeling and on the certain state of mind. Peace. Continue reading

The iPhone 4 obsession, again!
This video showcasing the advantages of the HTC versus the iPhone 4 is so hilarious! If we disregard the slang language, this video shows the “famous iphone obsession”, from an obsessed fan trying to purchase an iPhone4. The Apple brand is so powerful (Apple is #7 and Google is #1) that all the advantages that an HTC has can’t take the obsession away. There is one strong truth though, the social component of the apps is crucial. Let’s call this a “sect effect”. Continue reading
[Video ] Are you scared of social media?
I discovered this interesting video via Jean-Julien Guyot’s blog. It is originally from the social monitoring tool Alterian SM2 Techrigy. I particularly like the part of the rap when they say “social media is scary, and you’re wary”. It also appeals to the old school rap lover in me. Continue reading
